Why should we Strive for 35%?
· Many residents are already recycling; however we need to improve our current recycling rate in order to avoid fees that will be levied by the state when new caps are implemented.
· Rhode Island has mandated a 35% recycling rate for all municipalities by 2012. In 2009, the Town of Burrillville had a recycling rate of 24%.
· Each municipality is charged $32/ton for solid waste disposed at the Central Landfill. This is paid for by your tax dollars. The more trash you produce, the more the Town of Burrillville pays.
The Town of Burrillville adopted a NO BIN, NO BARREL program on December 1, 2010 to help us reach our 35% goal. This means:
· Your trash will NOT be picked up if you do not have at least one properly sorted recycle bin set out alongside your trash.
· Acceptable recycle bins include either a blue or green bin, or any container affixed with an “extra recycling” sticker.
· Bins MUST remain curbside until your trash has been collected.
· There are NO EXCEPTIONS.
Recycling is FREE!
Let’s work together to reduce the amount of trash produced per household and increase recyclables!
Let's all Strive for 35%!
