NO BIN NO BARREL
The Town of Burrillville implemented a No Bin, No Barrel program on 12/1/10.
How will this affect me? Most residents will see no change as the majority of Burrillville residents already recycle. However, you will have to leave your recycle bin on the curb until your trash has been collected.
How many bins are required? You must have at least one recycle bin at the curb for your trash to be collected. Ideally – the more recycle bins the better as this reduces the amount of trash going to the Central Landfill.
How do I get a recycle bin? Bins are available at the Department of Public Works, The Town Hall Annex, and IGA in Pascoag for $6.00 each. You may also pick up FREE "Extra Recycling" set out stickers to be used on any other container instead of purchasing a bin. Stickers are available at the DPW, Jesse Smith Library and the Town Hall.
How many barrels am I allowed? Each resident will be allowed four (4) 30 gallon bags or barrels of trash for curbside collection. Bags smaller than 30 gallon size must be placed in a barrel, or grouped together in a larger bag. Small bags not placed in a barrel or larger bag will be counted individually toward the 4 bag limit.
What is “NO BIN, NO BARREL”? No Bin, No Barrel is a popular program in many local communities. Your trash will NOT be picked up if you do not have at least one properly sorted recycle bin set out alongside your trash. Bins MUST remain curbside until your trash has been collected. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
How does this program help Burrillville? This program is to INCREASE the amount of recyclables and DECREASE the amount of trash going to the Central Landfill. Recycling is FREE; however, it costs taxpayers $32.00/ton to dispose of trash, and these rates will only increase. We are currently at a 24% recycling rate and will be required to meet 35% by 2012.
